New little box
Just a quick update here…
We are 33 weeks pregnant today – that is 82.5% of the way to 40 weeks – holy smokes! Amber’s been gleefully collecting cloth diapers and washing/folding them over and over to soften them up. Diapers are her obsession right now, and Jon has caught her talking in her sleep about them.
In other news, we got another new car. It is our first JAPANESE IMPORT – a Toyota! We got an excellent deal on an almost-brand-new 2006 Scion xB with only 9800 miles on it. It was super cheap because it had sustained some rear-end damage (which was completely repaired), but the salvage title tends to scare people off, so it was a screaming good deal!
That same morning, Amber’s Saturn decided to blow a piston rod. This is not a cheap repair and we still haven’t decided whether we want to pay for it to be fixed, try to get the engine rebuilt independently and re-install it on our own, or just junk the whole thing. We’re waiting to get some additional info back from the repair shop this afternoon, and then we’ll probably make the decision. It sounds like if we just do let the shop do the repair, we’d have a 12-month warranty on the engine, so that is really something to take into consideration. We’ll see how that all pans out…
Anyway, that’s what’s up in our neighborhood right now. No pictures of the new car yet, but here’s what it looks like – it’s a little box! The boxy look might make it seem big, but it’s technically a sub-compact economy wagon, with a wheelbase not much bigger than that of a Mini Cooper. But the low dashboard and high roof make it easy for both short (Amber) and tall (Jon) people to drive comfortably.

(Amber thinks this is the ugliest car ever, but admits that it is rather “peppy” for such a small engine, and it does tend to grow on ya… like a boxy, boxy fungus.)
