Uh-oh… he’s getting mobile
Just two and a half weeks ago, I set Jeremy down on his butt and he stayed there. Granted, he was a little hunched over and using his hands to help support himself, but he was sitting up. Now he sits up straight and tall, and waves his arms around while “talking” to us and playing with his toys. (His favorite toy these days is an old Cool Whip tub. Simple pleasures…)
Yesterday he added a new big-boy trick to his repertoire. He’s been able to roll over from back to front for a couple weeks, and he finally figured out that he can roll back to front to back, over and over again, and eventually get all the way across the living room until he bumps into the couch! (Then he tries to keep rolling, but I had to explain to him that he simply can’t roll up the couch. Even Mom and Dad can’t manage that trick.)
Between all the rolling and the inch-worming on his face, he can really cover some ground, and he’s only going to get faster and more agile. Crawling will probably follow soon, and then we’re really going to have our hands full – uff da!
Jeremy’s other big “milestone,” if you can call it that, is hollering angrily at anyone who dares drink a glass of water in his presence. He WANTS that water! He doesn’t know what it is, but he reaches and yells until you let him touch it. Then he splashes himself in the face, but it doesn’t deter him. I’ve helped him take a couple sips, and he always makes the funniest face, like he’s not so sure he likes the way it tastes, but he still goes back for more. I’m going to get him a sippy cup of his own to play with this week, and in a couple more weeks we’re going to let him try some solid food for the first time too – it’ll be mashed banana, which I hope he likes. It’ll be a celebration of his 6-month birthday! I can’t believe how fast he’s growing. It’s so much more fun now than it was in the first few weeks when he wasn’t much more than a needy little lump. I’m glad I toughed it out and didn’t sell him to the gypsies. He’s definitely worth it
